Who Was Rocks?

In the series, the initial mention of his name came through Sengoku as Brannew unveiled the bounties of the Four Emperors, or Yonko. The revelation of such a formidable pirate sent shockwaves through the fanbase, shattering the assumption that Gol D. Roger stood as the most dreaded figure on the seas.

Sengoku disclosed that this fearsome pirate went by the name of Rocks D. Xebec. Upon encountering this name, one cannot help but notice the inclusion of the enigmatic “D,” a letter shared by other legendary pirates like Gol D. Roger, Monkey D. Luffy, and Marshall D. Teach, among others. Rocks served as the captain of the infamous Rocks Pirates, a crew so notorious that not even its own members were spared from its treacherous ways. Rocks’ era predates the current timeline by forty years, and he reigned as the most formidable threat to the authority of the World Government.

Rocks undeniably stood as the preeminent pirate of his era, a formidable force that required more than just the Marines to quell. This fact alone underscores his monstrous prowess. Notably, the Rocks Pirates were notorious for their internal strife, making the need for an exceedingly powerful leader even more apparent. Kaido, one of the mightiest figures in the One Piece world, regarded Rocks as one of the few individuals capable of posing a genuine threat to him, a testament to his awe-inspiring might.

The mystery surrounding Rocks extends to the potential possession of a devil fruit. While concrete details remain elusive, speculation suggests that he might have wielded the Goro Goro no Mi, a logia-type devil fruit granting control over lightning. This devil fruit’s capabilities are staggering, with the potential to decimate entire islands when harnessed adeptly. After Rocks’ demise, the World Government’s inability to secure the Goro Goro no Mi led them on a quest to acquire a countermeasure, leading to their keen interest in the Gomu Gomu no Mi. This fruit became a target of paramount importance, and they went to great lengths to protect it. Unfortunately for them, Shanks pilfered it, and it eventually ended up in the hands of Luffy.

Who Were The Rocks Pirates?

The tumultuous and perilous nature of the Rocks Pirates extended even to their own comrades, marked by internal conflicts and lethal confrontations within their ranks. The presence of literal powerhouses like Edward Newgate, Charlotte Linlin, Kaido, Shiki, John, and others within their crew propelled these individuals into the spotlight as renowned pirates. It became evident that no single pirate crew could aspire to challenge such a formidable collective.

The turning point occurred thirty-eight years ago when the Rocks Pirates launched a brazen attack on God Valley, targeting the Celestial Dragons and their enslaved victims. The audacity of this assault left the World Government with no choice but to respond. They dispatched the Marines under the leadership of Monkey D. Garp, acknowledging that the Navy alone couldn’t surmount this monumental threat. Garp’s collaboration with Gol D. Roger was instrumental in dismantling the Rocks Pirates, leading to their ultimate defeat.

Subsequent to their captain’s demise, the Rocks Pirates disbanded, and God Valley mysteriously vanished from the world. In recognition of his pivotal role in the defeat of this formidable crew, Garp earned the illustrious title of the “Hero of the Marines.”
